Abstract: Motosikal Dan Enjin Nasional Sdn. Bhd. (MODENAS) was developed under a Heavy Industries project (HICOM) that was formed by the Malaysian Government for the project “Wawasan 2020”. The policy was introduced by former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed. The aim of this project is to exploit high technology know-how of manufacturing in the Malaysian industrial sector. It was estimated that more than 8 million motorcycles would be on the road in Malaysia by the year 2016. This figure indicated that one third of the Malaysian population would have motorcycles for their daily use as the main transport in rural areas and as alternative transport for urban areas. Motorsikal Dan Enjin Nasional Sdn. Bhd. (MODENAS) is a company under the DRB-HICOM Group and has undertaken the responsibility to manufacture and produce a “national” motorcycle and small multi-application engines. With a beginning paid-up capital of RM100 Million from four different shareholders the organization produced its first motorcycle in the year 1996.
