dc.description.abstractThis paper identifies the issues and challenges in trucking industry towards competitive businesses in the market of transportation at cross border checkpoints of Bukit Kayu Hitam Kedah Malaysia and Danok Sadao Thailand. The scope is to examine the businesses of UFA Utara Forwarding and Trucking Sdn Bhd which dealing with trucking at cross border activities from the beginning of its establishment, competitiveness, saturation and problem in the market of transportation. The UFA forwarding was established as logistics and transport services mainly for trans-border crossing using the Bukit Kayu Hitam Malaysia and Danok Sadao checkpoints. The company was established in 1975 with only three driver, three vehicles assisted by the several admin staff. The UFA Trucking had accumulated a total number of fleets more approximately 100 vehicles. It also faced a severe competition among the players in the year 2010 and above due to increases the numbers of players at this period. At the period of 2010 -2015 also established on stiff competition in trucking industry and recorded to robust demands on the trucking and containerized businesses and the industry was expended tremendously. In this period had recorded more than 20 companies with overall total fleets closed to 500 vehicles controlling the trucking market of at border areas. The increases of overall fleets in 10 years were approximately to 5 to 10 % per year for the cross border activities. On the other hand, the trucking markets were recorded from 8 to 12 % annually. In early 2012 was seen massive congestion at the border crossing of Bukit Kayu Hitam which the movement target for the daily movement was not achievable. The overall movements for trans-border crossing were running at loss and considered futile movements on its activities. Several meeting had been made among the transporters and regulatory bodies but the situation is remaining unchanged. The congestion of fleets had caused other problems especially in the operational activities and demands for trucking services. At the same time the trucking industry were also slapped with higher overhead costs in maintaining the overall fleets and manpower. Several factors had been implemented for improvement in order to maintain sustainability in the trucking market however the condition in trucking is still unchanged and congested due to lacked of facilities improvement at the check points .en_US
