Abstract: This case follows Anthony, a veteran business leader with 55 years of experience, who has successfully navigated diverse crises ranging from the 1970s economic downturn and the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis to SARS, COVID-19, and potential geopolitical disruptions. Through these challenges, the case explores crisis management concepts and theories, examining Anthony’s strategic responses, long-term implications, and leadership practices. His use of transformational, servant, situational, and skills-based leadership styles illustrates how adaptability and values-driven decision-making shape effective crisis navigation. Even though research on tourism crises has expanded, many destinations and organizations remain unprepared when crises occur. This reflects a persistent gap between academic research and industry practice, where recommended crisis management models are not always applied. By presenting Anthony’s real-world leadership and decision-making, this case aims to bridge theory and practice, offering students practical insights into the realities of crisis management and leadership in uncertain times.
