Abstract: | Like any business venture, Klekor is not spared from any challenges and problems related to human resources. The nature of Klekor in the food and beverage business requires good quality employees to ensure the smooth running of daily operations in all kiosks. Unfortunately, Klekor has to deal with multiple misconduct cases related to their sales assistants. As an Assistants Manager of Klekor Malaysia, Mrs Syafikah believes that the employee discipline issue at Klekor demanded urgent attention because it was one of the key aspects in ensuring the success of Klekor's business. Mrs Syafikah noticed that a few sales assistants' tardy behaviours had caused work disorientation, leading to customer dissatisfaction and eventually loss of revenue. It could be seen from the lateness problem committed by Aminah and Maryam. They were late to work without any prior notice between March and June 2021. They have given a few excuses such as car trouble, oversleeping, bad weather, extended breakfast, illness and personal matter. However, Mrs Syafikah was unsure whether all excuses were valid. Apart from their lateness problem, Mrs Syafikah had to manage Sarina's disciplinary action as well. Even though Sarina was frequently late, there would always be some friends she knew from work who were willing to clock in for her. To Sarina, such arrangement allowed some flexibility for her to come and leave work as she pleased. "You scratch my back, I scratch yours", the proverbs that had become her mantra these days. In dealing with Maryam, Aminah and Sarina indiscipline behaviour, Mrs Syafikah was unsure whether the work-environment related reasons were acceptable. She has yet to come up with appropriate tools and measures to handle discipline problems. Therefore, the biggest challenge for her and the management of Klekor is to handle the cases in a prudent manner. |
