Abstract: This case study was about exercising freedom of speech in Malaysia from the perspective of a legal advisor. Hence, the focus of this study was to identify the view of legal advisors about the freedom of speech, mainly the use of the law relating to restriction-free speech and expression by the Government as a tool to control the citizen. The protagonist of this case study was a legal advisor from the Kulasekar Associate., Petaling Jaya. This law firm was established in 1991. This firm has been handled a lot of cases which civil and criminal matters. The protagonist of this case was Mr. Wan Mohammad Fairuz Haneff B. Wan Azhan (Mr. Wan), one of the legal advisors in this firm. The main interest of this case study was to understand the law relating to the restriction of freedom of speech and expression, which is the Official Secret Act 1972, Films Censorship Act 2000, and Sedition Act 1948. Together, this case study did embark on drafting and developing these laws by the Government.
